THE WOOL | Covilhã Arte Urbana was presented in 2011 as the first festival of these expressions of Contemporary Art on Portuguese soil, introducing them as tools capable of promoting the social, cultural, economic and tourist transformation of this interior territory, aiming at cultural decentralization. One of the founding objectives of WOOL is to exalt the identity of this territory, honoring its inhabitants, its cultural or natural assets, its memory, among others. Likewise, it intends to bring the community closer to Culture and Art and to promote the visitation of WOOL and the city, assuming itself as an engine of economic development.Currently, WOOLs Urban Art Route has more than 40 murals and installations and has established itself as a brand of the city and the region. It annually receives hundreds of visitors (in groups or individually, for tours guided by the founders or assisted by the Talk2me platform), not only from all over the national territory, but also from more distant geographies such as Spain, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Brazil, Japan, USA or Australia. The WOOL application | wall by wall, launched during the 10th edition of WOOL, is the result of collaboration with the Department of Informatics at UBI, specifically with student Edgar Ladeira. It is a mobile APP that, through gamification, intends to awaken interest in discovering the Urban Art Route of WOOL and Covilhã.
